Notchland Inn - New Hampshire

We have just returned from our trip to New Hampshire for our anniversary. It was a beautiful
place and we had a great time. Notchland Inn was an incrediable place and we greatly enjoyed our stay there. We at dinner at the Inn on Friday night. It was a delicous (and for me, safe) 5 course dinner. I was even able to have dessert! Of course breakfast was delicous as well both days. The room was nice too complete with a balcony, sitting area, fireplace and whirlpool. There was also 3 skylights over the bed and was very beautiful when the moon passed over.
The hosts were also great. Very helpful and accomodating. I highly reccomend the Notchland Inn located at Hart's Location, New Hampshire. They also had two Bernese Mountain dogs that were huge. If I didn't want to drive into town, I probably could have saddled one of them up. They take to al lthe guest quickly and even become protective over them.
Saturday we went hiking up Arethusa Falls, an intermediate trail that was made a bit tougher by the snow and slush. Parts that normally had 'steps' were more like ice slides. The waterfall was of course frozen but was very cool to see. Well worth the trip up. That about did us in for the day (took 3-4 hours) so after napping we found a small
Mexican cafe and ate supper.
The scenery all around was amazing. Numerous ski resorts were scattered about and were of course crowded with Spring Breakers. The area no doubt must be amazing during fall. We hope to go back then and try a few different activites (more hiking, white water rafting, horseback riding, etc).

He had directed the second film as well, but was let go over (I think) creative differences. What we have seen for years is the good but not great Superman II. For years people have tried to get their hands on this "Donner Cut" version, but now it will be available to all!
So, if you are still reading this I mentioned a cool website at the top of this blog. Things have been busy this last week and will continue to be that way until 9 am tomorrow (which is when I will be finished with my last midterm). And then after my 3 classes Wednesday, Spring Break will officially begin. So, to makes sure that I am not lacking in entertaining my faithful readers, here are a few quick hits.

Oscar Musings:
Reese Witherspoon rocks. In my opinion, she is one of the most beautiful (who pales in comparrison to my wife of course) and best actresses in Hollywood. Very glad she won and a bit surprised. Generally actresses/actors who have been in comedic films are subbed by the infamous Academy; People such as Jim Carrey who shined in "The Truman Show" and "Man in the Moon" (and won Golden Globes for at least one if not both) and Robin Williams who was snubbed for years before finally winning for "Good Will Hunting". So, for a girl who played in "Legally Blond", I was impressed that she was even nominated for her first really serious role.
Joaquin Phoenix got jacked. Though to be fair, I have seen neither "Capote" nor "Walk the Line". I am just assuming. I only remember the other guy from "Patch Adams" and some other movie I can't recall. I just know he was in it. And I don't think I liked him in it.
Oh why not...cheers to George Clooney for winning...even though he beat me out in 1997 for sexiest man alive.
Cheers to "Crash" winning Best Movie. It was the only one of the nominated films that I have seen, but it was amazing. I highly recommend it.
Coming Summer 2007, the long awaited sequel to "March of the Penguins":
"Viva la Penguin: The Revolution Begins"
And finally, the greatest truth I learned last night from the Oscars...it sure is hard out here for a pimp. I always thought I was alone in that thought.

I stink at Texas Hold 'Em, but just enjoy it so dern much.
Finally found Diary Queens in MA. Unfortunately the discovery also turned up the sad horror that the large majorities of DQ out here are strictly ice cream products. They don't know what kind of nachos and chicken finger baskets they are missing.
Ironically, there are plenty of Sonic commercials but not a single Sonic around. Guess they are in with all the big insurance companies who have commercials out here who do not provide coverage in this state. You'd think some one on the marketing board would think, "hey...we could save tons of money in advertising if we didn't run commercials in areas we don't exist in!" But that's just me. I'm nutty that way.
I went through my first automatic car washer today. It was fun. Why was I so tempted to open the sun roof?

One Day More...
This Saturday, I will achieve a goal I have had since 1998. While it is nothing that will change the world (or seem huge or important to anyone else) it is something I have wanted to do for a long time. I will finally be seeing the broadway production of "Les Miserables".
We did some music from Les Miserables my senior year in choir (that's right kiddos, Rob was in choir. Try and let that thought put you to sleep tonight). Anyway, being a drama buff I fell in love with Les Miserables. The story, the music, all of it fascinated me.
I made it a goal in my life to see this production one day. Once it came to Dallas, TX but I was unable to make it because it occured around the time of my back surgery. Then the news broke that Les Miserables, after becoming the third longest running broadway performance, would be closing.
Luckily, Producer CameronMackintosh decided last year to reopen the prduction for a special limited 6 month run. This run will make (technically, as of this past October, 'has made') Les Miserables the longest running musical in the world.
This 6 month run will end in Boston, MA. My wife was wonderful enough to get me tickets for Christmas. So...all that to say 'at the end of the day your another day older. And that's all you can say for the life of the poor. It's a struggle, it's a war and there's nothing that anyone's giving. One more day stnading about, what is it for? One day less to be living!'

Nor'easter Pics
Here are a few pictures from the nor'easter that blew through New England over the weekend. It dumped at least a foot of snow in most areas. From my semi measuremnt, I'd say it was around 20 inches where we're at. Pretty cool. Sunny weather tomorrow and most of the week so the worst of it will be gone before we know it.
The first pic was taken around noon (Sunday) and the darker ones were around 6:00.

School Days
Well, I am currently sitting in the 'Boiler Room' located at Boston Baptist College (hence forth to be called BBC). We got out of Advance English early today (yea!) and so now I sit and await my next class (hermeneutics/interpretation of scripture). I thought as long as I am sitting in the Boiler Room, I might as well write a blog for all the curious souls at there who might be wondering 'I wonder how Robert is enjoying school?'
I am currently in my 4th day of classes and so far so good. Honestly, it is much like any other college, there are just more christians. That and we pray at the beginning of every class. And there is chapel. And I got to remember to bring my Bible (which I did that anyway at TJC).
For those who don't know, I am taking Old Testament Survey II (1 Kings - Malachi), New Testament Survey II (Acts - Revelations), Baptists & the History of Christians, Hermeneutics, and Advance English Composition (having to take this only because they use the 'Turabian' or Chicago style of writing and not the MLA that I know like the back of my hand...hey, what the heck is that growing on my knuckle??!).
I'd have to say that Old Testament Survey is my favorite course thus far (gotta love history). The teacher is really good and enthusiastic. He also knows his stuff which I always like from a teacher. The other class that interest me is Hermeneutics. It is probably going to be the most in depth class and is also very important because, "Without proper biblical interpretation, the theology of an induvidual or of an entire church may be misdirected or superficial and its ministry unbalanced." Thats from my text book.
I have only had to stay up late once (so far) and that was on Monday. I had to read the book of Acts as well as 5 chapters in our textbook for NT Survey. So I think I am adjusting well enough.
Not sure what else to report on really, school-wise. The Boiler Room is currently filled with out 5 children. Not sure why. Maybe a chemistry went really bad and turned some of the school into toddlers.
Everything else is going well too. Grace is doing really well too. More and more visitors each week. We started our Bible study groups last weekend and that was fun as well. God is doing great things through Sean (our pastor) and I am excited to see what He will do with Grace in the days, months and years ahead.
Weather has finally turned back to winter (or what they consider winter) around here. High today is in the low 30's with wind chill in the teens. Snowed Monday and Wednesday, but the sun does its job at melting it all away.
As some of you have probably already noticed, I have changed and thus fixed my website. I am so happy and thrilled that my side bar is where everyone can see it. What perplexes me is how many people come to this site and how few vote in the poll. So be sure to do that...it takes very little to make me happy and you all know I don't ask for much.
For any "Smallville" fan out there, be sure to watch the big 100th episode tonight. I am currently in my 4th day of classes and so far so good. Honestly, it is much like any other college, there are just more christians. That and we pray at the beginning of every class. And there is chapel. And I got to remember to bring my Bible (which I did that anyway at TJC).
For those who don't know, I am taking Old Testament Survey II (1 Kings - Malachi), New Testament Survey II (Acts - Revelations), Baptists & the History of Christians, Hermeneutics, and Advance English Composition (having to take this only because they use the 'Turabian' or Chicago style of writing and not the MLA that I know like the back of my hand...hey, what the heck is that growing on my knuckle??!).
I'd have to say that Old Testament Survey is my favorite course thus far (gotta love history). The teacher is really good and enthusiastic. He also knows his stuff which I always like from a teacher. The other class that interest me is Hermeneutics. It is probably going to be the most in depth class and is also very important because, "Without proper biblical interpretation, the theology of an induvidual or of an entire church may be misdirected or superficial and its ministry unbalanced." Thats from my text book.
I have only had to stay up late once (so far) and that was on Monday. I had to read the book of Acts as well as 5 chapters in our textbook for NT Survey. So I think I am adjusting well enough.
Not sure what else to report on really, school-wise. The Boiler Room is currently filled with out 5 children. Not sure why. Maybe a chemistry went really bad and turned some of the school into toddlers.
Everything else is going well too. Grace is doing really well too. More and more visitors each week. We started our Bible study groups last weekend and that was fun as well. God is doing great things through Sean (our pastor) and I am excited to see what He will do with Grace in the days, months and years ahead.
Weather has finally turned back to winter (or what they consider winter) around here. High today is in the low 30's with wind chill in the teens. Snowed Monday and Wednesday, but the sun does its job at melting it all away.
As some of you have probably already noticed, I have changed and thus fixed my website. I am so happy and thrilled that my side bar is where everyone can see it. What perplexes me is how many people come to this site and how few vote in the poll. So be sure to do that...it takes very little to make me happy and you all know I don't ask for much.
For any "Smallville" fan out there, be sure to watch the big 100th episode tonight. What Would Kanye West Do ?
Found this newsbit on Kidd Kradick's website:Kanye West has ticked off the Catholic Church. America's Catholic League has a little problem with Kanye posing for the cover of "Rolling Stone" wearing a crown of thorns on his head. The ACL says it's offensive and moronic. But Kanye says he's got a lot in common with Jesus because both he and the Lord had to fight for recognition and suffer for success. In the accompanying article, Kanye says, "If I was more complacent and I let things slide, my life would be easier, but you all wouldn't be as entertained. My misery is your pleasure." Now, I 'm not Catholic, but I would think this should be offensive anyway, and possibly sacrilegious. And I don't recall ever reading that Jesus 'fought for recognition' or suffered for 'success'. As I recall, Jesus was pretty popular from the get go and had a large following. While he did suffer, it wasn't for his success, but for our sins. That includes you Kanye.

Bryan's Trip
All the way from The Lone Star State, my best friend Bryan came up to visit last week. He took some great snapshots while he was out here and I thought I would post a few. As always, you can see the rest of the pictures at my old website (if you don't remember the address, check the side bar on the left...It may be all the way down at the bottom if you are not using Opera like I told you to).
First up is the Boston Public Library. The pictures below feature the two lion statues seen going up the main stairway, one of my favorite features at the library. The album will have some good pictures of some of the artwork found in the library so be sure to check it out.
Here we have two pictures that alone might seem confusing, thus I am posting them that I might explain then...Although seeing them together should make more sense. This statue and plaque are found next to each other outside of Boston's Old City Hall.
The "Stand In Opposition" plaque is facing and placed directly in front of the Democratic mascot.
And yes, we stood on it. Not together though...although no one would have done a double take if we did. Silly town.
Next up are some pictures of Norwood. Bryan didn't mind (after a little while) taking snapshots of the town since he was an actual tourist. I mean, I live here. I don't want to look like a dork by walking outside and taking pictures of my own town...I have enough trouble of trying to make people think I am not a nerd as is. Although, I was told at my school that "God loves nerds..." Not sure how I should take that comment. What was I doing?....Oh yes! Pictures of Norwood.
Top to bottom we have one of the churches in Norwood followed by a picture of the Norwood Library. Next is view of the town square/park area of Norwood as seen from the steps of Norwodd Town Hall. Following this is a picture of the afore mentioned Town Hall. Finally, you are looking at 2 pictures taken inside of the Town Hall.
And there you have it. As I already stated, there are many more pictures located at 'Robert's (Old) Website' in the album titled "Bryan's Trip".
I finally begin school tomorrow, so I will be sure to post on update on that at the end of the week. Also, I got a new poll up at the bottom of my sidebar. I know that no 0ne has voted on it (yes, all six votes are mine...guess I am a nerd. At least God still loves me). As I touched on earlier, many of you might not even notice the sidebar because for some odd reason, it gets pushed all the way down when viewed on Internet Explorer and MSN Explorer. So, if you use either of those two or have never seen my sidebar, take a second and scroll down to check it out. Yes, I am all about my sidebar. It features such fun and useful Robert-related information. Took a lot of time too, so please show it your love.

Salem, MA
Finally went into Salem, MA yesterday. It was the coldest day of the year thus far (20 degrees
without wind chill...and the wind was aroun 20-30 mph at times). We ate at a great resturant (Victoria Station) and then headed to the Salem Witch Museum. It was a little disappointing, mainly because of how little you get for how much you pay. As I told my dad, it made the 'Hall of President's' at Disney World feel like a huge blast. I did learn some interesting things regarding the witch trails...though I can't think of particulars currently.
The picture of the witch statue is located right outside the musuem.Even though the musuem was a bust, Salem is still a cool place. There are tons of really old house in Salem. Most featured a plate stating whose house it was, their occupation and when it was built.
Of course the majority were from the late 1600's. It's just amazing to see buildings (and a town) that has been around for so long. The picture to the right was Samuel Pickman's home and was built before 1681. I believe it is one of the oldest standing houses around.
We also visited the 'Old Burying Point Cemetery' which is "the oldest burying ground in the city". It dates back to 1637. Numerous old grave stones located here. I am not sure if any of the accused witches are buried here or not. It was so cold I felt like I was about to join the cemetary's permanent residents. 
It was a chilling thought wondering how many people were hung on the old trees throughout the town.

There was plenty more to see and do in Salem, but as I have already stated it was just too cold and windy. Next time we go back, I hope to visit 'The House of Seven Gables', the 'Peabody Essex Museum', the 'Spellbound Musuem', 'Hollywood House of Wax', and hopefully do the 'Haunted Footsteps Ghost Tour' (just to name a few).
